Kabbalah-based course focuses on emotional happiness

This Goldstein Learning Academy Jewish Learning Institute (JLI) is offering Soul Maps, an ancient approach to human psychology, at Chabad Jewish Center, 3977 Hunt Road in Blue Ash. Morning courses in the six-week program will take place from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursdays beginning Nov. 13, while evening classes will be offered from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Nov. 17.

Soul Maps is a six-step program that uses tools from the Kabbalah to help participants understand themselves and find inner contentment. The course is based on Tanya, an 18-century book.

“People struggle every day to understand themselves and find inner peace,” says Rabbi Yisroel Mangel of Chabad Jewish Center. “They’ve been through every book in the self-help aisle and they visit their therapist or confide in friends to sort through their feelings. What people really need is a guide to help them navigate their own complexity, and the Kabbalah has provided these tools for centuries.

“We won’t wave a magic wand and make people’s troubles disappear,” Mangel explains. “Students will walk away with concrete tools they can utilize every day to resolve guilt, conflict and confusion, and find their inner nucleus of joy, purpose and direction.”

Soul Maps is designed for people at all levels of Jewish knowledge; no prior experience or background in Jewish learning is required. Courses are open to the entire Jewish community; participants do not need to be a member of any particular synagogue or temple to attend.

The cost is $70, which includes a textbook. Interested participants are invited to attend the first lesson free, with no obligation.
