Chabad of Southeast Morris County offers course in Talmudic ethics
MADISON -- On Wednesday, Feb. 11, Chabad of Southeast Morris County will begin a new Jewish Learning Institute course on Talmudic ethics.
You Be The Judge II, an exploration of Jewish civil law, will meet on six consecutive Wednesdays at the Chabad Center, 42 Park Ave. Classes meet Wednesdays from noon to 1:15 p.m., and from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The course fee is $65 for those who register by Feb. 2. Couples pay $120.
Call 973-377-0707, or email [email protected].
The course fee includes the cost of the workbook and all materials. All are welcome to attend the first class on Feb. 11 free of charge.
You Be The Judge II is produced by the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute, an international adult education program. You Be the Judge II, presents students with real cases brought before the court system of Jewish law, and compares Talmudic analysis with the contemporary approach taken in U.S. courts. Topics include business ethics, property rights, and employment practices, and each lesson provides an opportunity to question, discuss, and argue, based on principle and precedent.
Jewish Learning Institute courses are open to the Jewish community and to people from all backgrounds and affiliations. Participants need no prior experience or background in Jewish learning to attend and enjoy this course.
"People have turned to the wisdom of the Talmud for centuries for moral clarity and guidance," says Rabbi Shalom Lubin, director of Chabad of SE Morris County. "You Be The Judge II allows attendees to challenge conventional notions of right and wrong, and experience firsthand the exhilarating mental exploration that characterizes traditional Talmud study."
