Chabad's Jewish Learning Institute will begin two courses beginning in late January: one on Judaism's relevance in modern life, taking place over 11 Wednesday evenings starting Jan. 25 and another focusing on Jewish Business Ethics, taking place over 6 Thursday evenings.

• The Torah Studies course on Judaism's relevance in modern life will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on 11 consecutive Wednesdays beginning Jan. 25 at the Lazaroff Chabad Center, 8124 Delmar Boulevard.

Some of the topics to be addressed are the Jewish perspective on gratitude, anti-Semitism, recovery, parenting, and Jewish leadership. The season will also focus on the upcoming seasonal holidays.

• Chabad ‘s Jewish Learning Institute is partnering with the Jewish Community Center to present a new accredited six-session course, "Money Matters: Jewish Business Ethics," held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on six consecutive Thursdays, beginning Jan. 26. Classes take place at the Arts and Education Building of the JCC Staenberg Family Complex. The course is accredited by the Missouri Bar for 6.6 MCLE credits.

Money Matters discusses Jewish teachings about business and money, addressing issues such as the ethics of bankruptcy and freeloading, fair living wages, insider trading, CEO compensation and collective bargaining. It also ponders questions such as: After purchasing a ticket for a ball game, can you move to an unoccupied, higher-priced seat? If you ever have the money are you morally obliged to repay discharged debt?

All of Chabad's Jewish Learning Institute courses are open to the public regardless of personal affiliation, and is designed to appeal to people at all levels of Jewish knowledge, including those without any prior experience or background in Jewish learning.
