Chabad offers course on biz ethics

The Rohr Jewish Learning Institute will present a new course, “Money Matters: Jewish Business Ethics,” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Chabad of Thousand Oaks, 2060 E. Avenida Los Arboles, Ste. I. The first session was Jan. 25.

The six-session series is accredited for nine CLE ethics credits.

Rabbi Chaim Bryski of Chabad of Thousand Oaks will conduct the sessions.

The course will discuss the personal ethics of bankruptcy and freeloading and touch on such questions such as: After purchasing a ticket for a ball game, can one move to an unoccupied, higher-priced seat? Are people who have the money morally obliged to repay discharged debt?

Questions regarding topics in social ethics such as living wages, insider trading, CEO compensation and collective bargaining will also be addressed.

“Money Matters” is designed for people at all levels of Jewish knowledge, including those without any prior experience or background in Jewish learning.

The course is open to the public, and attendees need not be affiliated with a particular synagogue or other house of worship.

The cost for the entire series is $50.
