Rabbi Motti Wilhelm has joined the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute’s National Editorial Board, which reviews and comments on JLI course materials before they are published.

The executive director of the Jewish Learning Institute, the adult educational arm of Chabad-Lubavitch, recently wrote to Wilhelm to acknowledge the latter for his achievement as Portland JLI instructor.

Rabbi Efraim Mintz wrote, “In just a short time, Portland, Ore., has become a premier chapter in the JLI network. With 75 students participating this year alone, your success is on par with locations in far larger markets.

“Your students who return course after course are a testament to your warmth as an instructor. We know you’ve worked hard to create an environment that inspires in your students feelings of hope and understanding, as well as a sense of purpose and value.”

Portland student Jason Kaufman agreed: “Not only has taking a JLI course enhanced my knowledge about a subject I was not as familiar with, but it has allowed me to meet Jews in a setting that is friendly, fun and participant-driven. Rabbi Wilhelm delivers what can be an intimidating topic into a lesson that leaves one craving more.”

Rabbi Motti Wilhelm took over the teaching duties from his father Rabbi Moshe Wilhelm in 2007 when he returned to Portland.

The next JLI class begins April 28. The topic is “Beyond Never Again,” a six-part course about the Holocaust.

The coursewill be in two locations on six Wednesdays: at Chabad of Oregon, 2317 SW Vermont St. in the evening and at the Perkins Coie law firm at noon. For details, contact Chabad at 503-977-9947 or [email protected] or visit myjli.com.
