Chabad of Greater St. Louis and its affiliate Jewish Learning Institute (JLI) will present the institute’s new six-session spring course Oasis in Time: The Gift of Shabbat in a 24/7 World. The course will begin on Tuesday, May 17, and will continue on six consecutive Tuesdays from 7:30 to 9:00 pm. Rabbi Yosef Landa, regional director of Chabad of Greater St. Louis will conduct the course sessions at the Lazaroff Chabad Center, 8124 Delmar Blvd. The course will also be presented by JLI affiliates over the same period in over 350 Jewish communities around the world

“I see this course as Judaism’s secrets to serenity.” said Rabbi Yosef Landa. “Amidst the many distractions in our age of information technology, it will empower individuals of all persuasions to find respite from perpetual urgencies and focus on what’s truly important in life.”

“We explore the mystical, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions of Shabbat to unlock a model for how to find serenity and a transcendent frame of mind throughout life’s experiences, said course author, Rabbi Zalman Abraham of JLI’s New York headquarters. “From traditional and kabbalistic sources, we uncover insights that shed light on tranquility and the meaning of Shabbat, as well as timeless principles for how to achieve a life of inner peace while making each workday more productive and fulfilling.”

Like all JLI programs, Oasis in Time is designed to appeal to people at all levels of Jewish knowledge, including those without any experience or background in Jewish learning. The course is open to the public, and attendees need not be affiliated with a synagogue or Jewish institution.

The fee for the entire course including the textbook is $65. First-time students are welcome to attend the first session free without obligation to continue. Interested students may call
