September 2, 2016 (San Carlos) -- Beginning this fall, the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute will open its doors in San Carlos.

Rabbi Rafi Andrusier has taught hundreds of Jewish classes since he first moved to San Diego in 2012, but now he’s taking it to a whole new level. This summer, Rabbi Rafi traveled to New York to attend a series of inaugural training seminars in advance of the upcoming launch of the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute (JLI) in the eastern San Diego region.

“At the heart of Jewish culture there has always been Jewish learning—an engaged and vibrant meeting of minds,” explains Andrusier. “We’re excited to be able to bring this open and interactive learning environment to our community.”

JLI is not only the largest network of Jewish adult education, it is also noted for its use of cutting-edge pedagogic techniques to unlock the wisdom and life-messages found within Judaism’s ancient texts.

Founded on the understanding that people have different minds and different learning modalities, JLI incorporates personalization, visual aids, text analysis, peer discussion, learning activities, lectures, and more, to address each of student’s emotional, procedural, exploratory, and analytical learning styles, in order to convey the material in a manner that will be assimilated by all.

JLI prides itself in its promise of “an aha! moment in every lesson,” and according to JLI’s central offices in Brooklyn, participants have come to expect this, which they say explains their unusually high return rate from course to course.

JLI courses have become synonymous with Jewish wisdom that is relevant to people’s lives, regardless of background or affiliation.

For the 2016–2017 academic year, JLI will be offering three new courses in the Mission Trails area: In November 2016, How Success Thinks will explore Jewish approaches to behavioral psychology; in January 2017, Intellectual Conundrums: Modern Dilemmas. Talmudic Debates. Your Solutions. a brand-new, interactive approach to Talmud study, in which participants will engage original ancient texts to find solutions for impossible modern-day situations; and in May 2017, Survival of a Nation: Exploring Israel through the Lens of the Six-Day War will mark the war’s 50-year anniversary with a controversial historical and contemporary discussion of the hot-button issues facing Israel today.

JLI’s six-session courses are offered concurrently in 360 communities spanning five continents, allowing students to begin a course at home, continue while on a business trip in Singapore, and complete the course while on vacation in Greece.

All JLI courses are open to the entire Jewish community, and people do not need to be a member of any particular synagogue or temple in order to attend. As an inaugural special offer, local community members are welcome to register for the course and sample the first lesson free of charge, with no obligation to continue.

Interested students may call 619.387.8770 or visit www.myJLI.com for registration and other course-related information.

JLI, the adult education branch of Chabad Lubavitch, offers programs in more than 1,000 locations in the U.S. and abroad, including numerous foreign chapters in Australia, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Israel, the Netherlands, Russia, South Africa, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Venezuela.

More than 320,000 students have attended JLI classes since the organization was founded in 1998.

Members of the local media are invited to observe a class and/or conduct an advance interview with the local course facilitator. Interviews with national facilitators and course creators also may be scheduled, upon request.
