The questions have been coming to Rabbi Levi Mentz ever since he helped establish Chabad of Forsyth in 2017. They trickle in from residents, each one interested about the tenets of Judaism.

“People in Forsyth County, they’re very deep thinkers,” Mentz said. “They’re curious: ‘Give me a bottom line from an ideological perspective. I want to know, what do Jews believe in? What is faith for the Jewish people?’”

Starting Wednesday, Chabad of Forsyth will offer a six-week course open to those interested in learning just that.

The course, titled ‘Wrestling with Faith,’ is provided through the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute and aims to tackle some of the biggest questions in religious communities regarding faith and the present times. For example, one lesson focuses on how the Jewish faith reconciles compelling evidence about evolution.

The lessons are Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., and Mentz hopes the course is a way for the Forsyth County community to come together and cultivate a deeper understanding of Judaism.

“People know that Judaism has been around for thousands of years. It probably does have deep intellectual perspectives on life,” Mentz said. “But now … the community at large can gain access to the wisdom that has carried the Jewish tradition.”
