This course delves into 12 exotic true stories from Jewish history.

This spring, Chabad centers in Metro Detroit will launch a new course from the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute (JLI): Colorful Profiles, a four-week course exploring Jewish history and the stories of our forebearers in a whole new light.

This course delves into 12 exotic true stories from Jewish history. These aren’t stories you’d know from the Bible, the Talmud or even a history book. These are the tales that few have heard, stories of real men and women who did incredible things — from converts and hostages to the Torah scholar who led a Muslim army and the businesswoman who saved thousands from the Spanish Inquisition.

This course is an adventure into the rich and beautiful Jewish past. Their trials and triumphs uncover a rich understanding of the challenges our people faced that we continue to grapple with today. And their stories teach us a lot about what it means to be a Jew in 2025.

Like all JLI courses, Colorful Profiles is open to adults of all ages and is geared toward every level of knowledge, including those who have no previous background in Jewish learning.

The following Chabad centers have joined efforts in offering this course in Metro Detroit:
