The Rohr Jewish Learning Institute will present a new six-week course, “Life in the Balance: Jewish Perspectives on Everyday Medical Dilemmas” starting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28 at the Waxman Chabad Center, 2479 S. Green Road in Beachwood.

Scientists recently identified the BRCA genetic mutations, common in Ashkenazi Jews, which significantly increase the risk of breast and ovarian cancers. The course will examine when to test for cancer and preventive measures.

Evening classes will take place from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Mondays starting Oct. 28 and on Tuesdays starting Oct. 29. Daytime classes will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays beginning Oct. 30 and on Thursdays beginning Oct. 31. Classes start at $65.
